power query can import data from a variety of sources including csv, text files, a folder on a drive, facebook and salesforce. from excel 2016 and in microsoft 365, it is available directly within excel from the data tab, but is labeled get & transform. It first appeared in excel 2013 but was made available only as an add in named power query. remove references to columns that are no longer used. After you create a connection to an external data source in a data model, you can use the power pivot add in to change: the connection information-including the file, feed, or database used as a source, its properties, or other provider specific connection options. with power pivot, you add richness to that data model.
